The 'Educator's Guidebook' is a series of activity books for school educators. It was illustrated and designed in collaboration with the scientists and researchers at the Centre for Wildlife Studies for Wild Shaale, their environmental education program.
The program is conducted in rural areas around the wildlife reserves of the Western Ghats to encourage appreciation and wonder amongst children that live so close to forests. The book covers feature two charismatic animals from the Western Ghats, the lion-tailed macaque and the smooth-coated otter.
Each activity is introduced by the character mascot for the book, followed by vibrant illustrations of topics discussed in the book to make the content interactive. Photographed here is the smooth-coated otter character on the cover of volume 2 of the series and in an activity introduction page inside the book.
An overview of the iterative development of animal characters for the books which, involved sketching and studying the animal in different styles and poses.
Some illustrations from a chapter in the first volume that discussed the different habitats of animals. Depicted here are: ocean, grassland, forest and river habitats (clockwise, starting from top left) and the animals that they are home to across India.
